æffekta defekta 2024 Exhibition
The exhibition presents a trilogy of films from different greenhouses, functioning as sites of sovereignty, segregation, and control. The three video works featured in the exhibition explore conservatories as utopias, sources of inspiration and creativity, as well as symbols of crisis.
Since the 19th century, botanical conservatories have been utilized as orientalist exhibition sites for exotic plants, contributing to a romantic -colonial image of the biosphere. This video trilogy delves into this subject matter through cinematic means. a Castle in Red - follows an abandoned greenhouse on the Gaza-Israel border where Israeli soldiers are playing tomato war, See Through Me- is the greenhouse project of Israeli artist Avital Geva, and Lucky Ember- a celestial projection of the greenhouse effect in a german coal mining town.
